Downloading a PDF Pattern
What is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable and printable sewing pattern in 1:1 scale. You need to print the file using Adobe Acrobat Reader to 100% scale on an A4 printer and stick the pages together. Once you’ve sticked all sheets together following the numbers and arrows correctly, you can cut around your individual pattern pieces.
How and when will I receive my pattern and manual?
As soon as your payment has been processed you will receive a confirmation email from us with your material attached. If you’ve created an account with us, you can also access your pattern and manual by logging into your personal account.
What is included when I’m purchasing a digital pattern?
Each pattern purchase will include a downloadable zip containing two files, a printable pattern in PDF format and a style-specific step-by-step manual.
I did not receive an email after successfully purchasing a product.
Have a look in your spam folder of your email address you’ve used when purchasing through our store, quite likely it went there. If not, please contact us via email@example.com and we will look into it as soon as possible.
What sheet size does my pattern print?
Currently our patterns are only available to print on A4 size – ideal for your home printer.
What if I do not have a printer?
Simply take your PDF files to one of your local printers and get it printed for you. Lots of them have an online print service, too.
What if my printed pattern appears not to scale?
First use our tester square to measure. Double check your print scale is set to ‘Actual size’. If this is correct you should be fine. To avoid any disappointment, we highly recommend to only print via Adobe Acrobat Reader.
How many times can I download a purchased pattern?
There is no limit to how many times you can download your pattern.
Can I share the downloaded pattern with friends?
As much as we want you to share the skill of sewing with your community, we kindly ask you not share your downloaded pattern with your friends. However we would be thrilled if you send your friend our way and make a recommendation.
Can I use a SMW pattern for any shop bought fabric, too?
Absolutely you can, but we encourage you to join our zero-waste philosophy and up-cycle with us. Our patterns have been very carefully designed so they can be re-cut from old & unwanted clothes and textiles.
How do I care for my new up-cycled item?
Read the care label on the garment you wish to up-cycle and continue washing and caring for your new item in the same way. If, for some reason, the care label is not available anymore, we advise to wash your up-cycled garment by hand or at a low temperature.
How do I know which fabric quality is best suited for the SMW pattern?
Each of our patterns comes with a recommendation from us as to which type of fabric would best suit the style and pattern. You can find this information in our shop and your manual for every single style.
How do I know if my old garment has enough fabric to make my new garment?
Due to the nature of our up-cycle project – each time you make something with us – it will be different! This is the exciting part about up-cycling! We have created a ‘Fabric consumption scale’ to help guide you – have a look here. Don’t worry, if the one garment you’ve chosen is not enough – this is your chance to get creative and use two, or three. You are the designer here. Our Instagram and website is full of great tips for you.

Each of our patterns has a size chart available where you can see the basic measurement to help you select the correct size.

What tools and equipment will I need?
Each manual will tell you about all the tools, equipment and trims required for each individual style. You also find the information in our shop for each individual style and our basic sewing tool requirement overview.

What is your return policy?
Due to the nature of our product it is not possible to return or refund.
What if I need to cancel a workshop?
Our workshop bookings are non-refundable. We do appreciate that sometimes-unforeseen circumstances may mean that you can’t attend a workshop so we are happy for you to send along a friend to take your place, we will need their name and contact details prior to the workshop. Alternatively, if you contact us at least 7 days in advance of the start date of the workshop, then we can offer a transfer to the same workshop on an alternative date, providing there are places available or a workshop is planned for the future or give you a gift card for our online shop.
What my workshop is getting cancelled?
Should we need to cancel a workshop due to unforeseen circumstances, we will aim to give you as much notice as possible of the cancellation. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any liability for travel or other costs but will transfer your booking onto the next available workshop slot which works for you, too.
Can I sell clothes I make with your patterns?
No, but if you’re a small crafter and really want to sell your up-cycling projects to the community, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and ask for our agreement.
Do I need an account with SWM to buy Patterns?
No, you don’t need an account with SMW to purchase any pattern but creating an account with us makes it easier to manage your purchases and downloads in one place.
Where can I get help with my pattern and sewing if I get stuck?
